During pregnancy, eating for two can be very nerve-wracking job, especially when there are varieties of food available around. Sometimes, it is hard to decide that what kind of food is better for the proper development of the baby. Here, in this article we will look out for the eight most nutritious foods for the expecting mother and the developing baby

Eggs: Eggs are the best source for quality protein; it is also a good source of more than 12 vitamins and minerals. Protein is very much essential during pregnancy, as baby’s cells are developed with protein as well as the expecting mother has her own protein needs. Eggs are also rich in vitamin B complex, which boosts the baby's brain development. A healthy woman with normal blood cholesterol can add one to two eggs in her daily diet. Eggs are very easy and quick to make and are best to consume during pregnancy.
Salmon: Salmon is very rich in high-quality protein and is a very good source of omega-3 fats. The mercury content in salmon is very less as compared to other fishes like king mackerel, tilefish, etc. so it is very safe to consume.
Beans: There are various varieties in beans like Navy beans, black beans, lentils, pinto beans, chickpeas, etc. so you can select any kind of beans for daily eating as it is very good in fiber and protein. Fiber helps in reducing the risk of constipation and hemorrhoids. Fiber can help prevent and relieve these problems.
Sweet potatoes: It is a rich source of vitamin A and C; sweet potatoes are very easily available in the market and are very cheap at cost. So, one should add them in the daily diet during pregnancy.
Whole grains: Grains are very good for expecting mothers as they are rich source of fiber and other nutrients as Vitamin E, selenium, etc. One can also eat popcorns, as they are good in taste and are very nutritious, oatmeal, wheat, barley are some of the other in the category of nutritious food.
Walnuts: If you are a vegetarian and can’t eat fish or egg, then walnuts are the best alternate to add on in the daily diet. Walnuts are very much rich in protein and omega-3, so one handful of these nuts can do wonders.
Vegetables: Vegetables are rich in all types of vitamins and minerals, especially, green leafy vegetables are rich source of iron, vitamin A, C and K.
Colorful fruits:  Adding different varieties of colorful fruits in the daily diet is a very good habit. Different color of fruits ensures that the mother and the baby are getting all the nutrients.
Thus, these are the few very basic but very nutritious food items which are very good for the development of the baby as well as for the better health of the expecting mother during pregnancy.
